CRS Fundraiser 2025

Following a productive 2025, CRS plans to continue scaling its research and outreach in 2026 to help create a future with less suffering. To support this growth, we’re aiming to raise USD 200,000 to secure and strengthen our team. We are entirely funded by individual donors, and we greatly appreciate your support.

As we approach the end of the year, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of Center for Reducing Suffering (CRS) and our research.

It has been a busy year, but we’re excited about what’s to come next year. In case you missed it, we recently announced that applications are open to the second iteration of our Intro to S-Risk Fellowship.

We’ve also expanded the team to strengthen the organisation’s capacity, recently shared an updated Theory of Change, and launched a new Substack featuring weekly posts. We also recently held an end-of-year Q&A with the founders of CRS to explain more about our plans.

Plans for 2026

We’re excited for the new year, and are ambitious about what we can achieve. Here is a summary of some of our aims:

  • Run our introductory fellowship: We aim to support new researchers working on neglected questions, grow the community of suffering reducers, and strengthen research capacity.
  • Advance research on s-risk and suffering-focused ethics: We will publish new work and encourage wider engagement with the field.
  • Publish and promote Magnus Vinding’s new book, Compassionate Purpose: The book is in final editing stage, and will be published early in 2026.
  • Grow and support the community: We aim to further strengthen our outreach efforts, create more connections, and build capacity.
  • Increase CRS’s participation at key events: These events will allow us to share CRS’s work and build relationships across relevant communities. We also intend to arrange regular in-person meet-ups on suffering-focused ethics and s-risks.
  • Experiment with multimedia content: We will explore more accessible formats to share our ideas, such as video content.
  • Improve internal systems and operations: Providing support for a growing team and expanding activities.

Fundraiser

We are excited about 2026 and have been ambitious in strengthening our team through a robust recruitment process. As CRS grows capacity in the areas most important to our mission, our funding requirements have also increased.

This year, we are setting an ambitious fundraising goal of USD 200,000 (approximately GBP 150,000).

Here’s a tiered path for what different levels of fundraising would enable:

USD 100,000: This amount would enable us to retain key personnel, thus securing the continuity and development of our core research and outreach work.

USD 200,000: This would support the equivalent of three full-time team members, allowing us to expand our fellowship programme and in-person outreach. We would also be able to free up capacity across the team by strengthening our in-house operations and research support.

Alongside raising funds from our existing donor community – whose ongoing support we are deeply grateful for – we are also exploring opportunities to apply for external funding to help sustain and scale our activities.
