Remote | Flexible hours (10-40 hours per week) | Compensation based on experience
The Center for Reducing Suffering (CRS) is looking for a thoughtful and proactive new team member. We are looking for someone who can help us carefully communicate complex ideas about suffering reduction to our audience, and/or someone who can help us with operations.
We’re a small organisation working to reduce future suffering — particularly the most severe forms — by researching crucial questions and supporting aligned individuals and institutions.
This is a flexible contractor position for someone who ideally has experience in communications, outreach, or operations. You’ll help shape the external voice of CRS, ensure things run smoothly behind the scenes, and build meaningful connections with individuals who share our aims.
It is possible that we will hire both an outreach and an operations specialist, respectively. This depends on the applications we receive. We are flexible; our priority is to do great work that advances our mission.
Please apply if you’re interested, even if you’ve applied before or submitted an Expression of Interest.
What you might do:
- Produce accessible content that communicates CRS’s work and mission to broader audiences (e.g. videos or blog posts explaining s-risks research, newsletter updates, social media content)
- Go to conferences to pursue networking opportunities and represent CRS
- Manage our social media channels and newsletter
- Lead or co-run our Intro to S-Risks Fellowship
- Help develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including researchers, funders, and potential collaborators
- Hold career advice calls and take part in CRS recruitment processes
- Reach out to individuals and organisations aligned with our values to spark conversations and collaborations
- Help with ops and admin tasks to support the smooth running of the organisation
- Work directly with researchers and authors shaping the field of suffering-focused ethics
You don’t need to tick every box, and we’re happy to tailor responsibilities around your strengths and interests. We are looking for someone who enjoys working independently, with minimal oversight.
You’re likely a good fit if you:
- Have experience with communications, outreach, operations, or programme management
- Care deeply about reducing suffering
- Are comfortable operating in early-stage environments
- Can engage respectfully with different worldviews and moral frameworks
- Are thoughtful, reliable, and able to drive projects forward independently
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and locations. This is a remote role with flexible hours, and compensation will be determined based on experience.
To apply, please send your CV and a brief cover letter to admin@reducingsuffering.org
