2022 has been an exciting year for us. It saw the release of Magnus Vinding’s book Reasoned Politics, Tobias Baumann’s book Avoiding the Worst: How to Prevent a Moral Catastrophe. In addition, we published several essays on suffering–focused ethics. We are now raising money to consolidate our financial situation.
We believe that CRS’s open-ended research programme on how to best reduce suffering fills an important gap. To help donors make informed choices, we are fully transparent about our values and our strategy. For more details on why we do what we do, see our Strategic Plan.
If you share our suffering-focused perspective, then we think supporting CRS is a unique opportunity. We have a track record of high-quality content on ethics, s-risks and cause prioritisation. You can judge this for yourself by browsing our Research page. Our recent output (in particular, Reasoned Politics and Avoiding the Worst) has been well-received both among the effective altruism community and among a wider audience. We therefore believe that we are in a good position to help advance the above-mentioned research project and achieve our strategic goals.
We also have exciting plans for the future. In addition to producing more high-quality content, we would like to hire a communications manager to help us expand our reach. We plan to popularise key ideas relating to s-risks and suffering-focused ethics by communicating our message in new formats, such as podcast appearances or YouTube videos.
To achieve our mission, we need your support. Our target is to fundraise $100,000. This would allow us to hire 1-2 additional staff (for research and/or communications), free up time for writing and research, and provide sufficient financial safety.
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.
